Map it Out

Hello, hello, hello. Thank you for tuning in to another episode of The Zealous Disposition Podcast.  Today I will be sharing my thoughts on Mapping things out.

Ok, so in the last episode we were Frankenstein-Zombie-Awkward-Crazy-Looking people learning how to take Baby Steps. Now we have a little trout going and soon we’ll be running.

But where are we running to?

Do we have our route mapped out?

What about detours?  Do we have an alternate route?

Where you’re going maybe obvious and you can probably see your target…but it’s still good to map things out to have a visual reference of where you’re heading.

You know what this reminds me of?  Shows my kids use to watch.

They’re older now but I remember when they we little.  I remember some of the shows they watched…Kim Possible, Little Bill, That’s so Raven, and Dora the Explorer.

I can still hear the opening song…***Sing Song***

D D D Dora

D D D Dora (Let’s go!)

Dora Dora Dora the explorer

Boots and super cool explorer Dora

I can also remember how each episode would go and my internal responses.  Something would be going on and Dora would have to take something to her Abuela.

She would begin her journey and somewhere along the way she would have to thwart off Swiper and his antics…with the “Swiper no swiping…swiper no swiping”.  Then Swipe would be like…”Ahhh mannnnn.”

She would also encounter obstacles that would require her to call on her Backpack and then her Map.

This is the part that would make be be like “Ugggg, come on Dora.”  I mean…she could see the obstacle, she clearly describes it and even ask the viewers if they see it…

She could see which route to take but yet she would always call on the Map and he would come out singing, “I’m the map, I’m the map, I’m the map”.  The Map would do his thing and Dora would once again break the 4th wall and ask the viewers which way she should go.

I have to admit…I would be like, “Dora…I know you see the bridge and I know you see the alligator.  You know you need to take the bridge to avoid the alligator so use – the – bridge – Dora.”

But now looking back at the show…Dora was on point and we can still learn from her.

Here’s what I mean…

We know where we want to go but we should have a plan on how to get there. We need to anticipate obstacles and bring the necessary tools to do so and for Dora, a Backpack was a good way to carry those tools.

And when we experience an obstacle, we need to check our map and consult someone…even when the correct choice is obvious.

Let’s break everything down…

Write down your goals.

Write down the steps…the Baby Steps…on how you will get there.

Write down what the tools you will need…books, websites, study guides, transportation, funding, etc…and how you will acquire the tools.

Write down your timeline of when this needs to be accomplished.

Then slowly begin to put everything in motion AND…

Refer back to you plan, aka The Map, on a regular basis…even when things seem obvious.

They’ll be obstacles but keep pressing onward and upward.  Soon you’ll be doing the dance and singing the song at the end of Dora…***Sing Song***

We did it…

We did it…

We did it…

Yay!  Lo hicimos

We did it!

Hopefully you enjoyed this episode and other episodes. I ask that you take a few seconds and rate the podcast. Of course I would like the highest rating but an honest rating will do. The goal is to reach as many people as possible…even if requires low reviews and feedback so I can make adjustments.
