Ep 11. Weapon or Tool
Hello, hello, hello. Thank you for tuning in to another episode of The Zealous Disposition Podcast. Today I would like to open with a question…
What’s the difference between a weapon and a tool?
For the purpose of this podcast a weapon is used to destroy something and a tool is used to build something.
Now that we defined weapon an tool…can you name a few things that can be both a weapon and a tool?
Let’s first take a look at Fire.
As a tool, fire…
• Helps use stay warm
• Helps us with cooking…grilling with coal or propane
As a weapon…
California fires…I remember growing up in SoCal and there would always be fires.
• Devastating…
• Families lost all their belongings…
• Homes and towns destroyed…
• TV footage – trees in flames…smoke covered skies
• You could see the flames jumping from tree to houses
How did these fires start? What was the cause of all this destruction? Chances are, these fires started from a small source – small when compared to a field or tree. The source could have been an unattended campfire or cigarette thrown from car. It quickly spreads jumping from tree to tree and house to house. Soon all nearby trees are consumed. The fire keeps going until it’s stopped by our brave firefighters or there’s nothing else to burn. Fire…a powerful weapon and tool.
Now let’s take a look at something else that can be a weapon and a tool.
The Tongue…
As a weapon…Damaging words from the tongue Similar to Fire as a weapon. The tongue is small when compared to the body. The fire is released by the tongue and spreads from one to another ultimately destroying all within arms reach.
As a tool…
Encouraging words can brighten someone’s day…can show that someone cares. You can build someone up and watch that spread to the next person and so on.
Too often do we use the tongue as a weapon not realizing that we are creating fires all around us. Soon we will be encircled with no way out and end up being consumed by the fire we created.
Will you use your tongue as a weapon to destroy or as a tool to build?
Stop setting the trees ablaze and start watering them.
