Old School Thought
My birthday recently passed and I received a few emails, text messages, phone calls, and cards. All of my birthday wishes meant a lot and I was thankful for each gesture. However, some stood out more than others. The text messages were cool but seemed like it was a last-minute thought. Emails were thoughtful because each person took the time to log into their account, type out a few words, and click send. The phone calls made me smile. Hearing the feeling and happiness in their voice will always put a smile on my face. However, the previously mentioned couldn’t be placed in the same category as a handwritten note in a card.
There’s something about a handwritten note. It holds value. You can almost see the writer’s personality in the writing when compared to a note typed in a standardiZed font with a colon and parenthesis to make a happy face at the end. The writer had to put thought into the entire process. They had to pick out the card, write a note, and mail it the old fashion way…with a stamp. It might not sound like a big deal but it feels wonderful when I’m away from home and I get cards from my family telling me how much they miss me and to stay strong. My kids always seem to find the funniest cards.
Take some time to send a card to a friend or a loved one. Brush up on your chicken scratch and hanDwrite a note to let them now you were thinking about them. If it’s been a while since you’ve used a pen then you might want to practice writing the note a few times before you send the final copy. The small amount of time it takes to send a card could become a memory to last a lifetime.
