Greet When You Meet

Throughout our lives we try to better ourselves in one way or another.  We read “How To…” books, we watch and listen to motivational speakers, and we even pass this information on to friends and loved ones.  However, this is only one part of the puZzle.  As mentioned in the old school cartoon G.I. Joe, “Knowing is half the battle.”  The hardest part of doing something is doing it…taking action.  It’s one thing to know how to do something and when to do it but actually doing it is a different story.

We are going to start taking action on the topics covered in this site.  I challenge you to participate in the series of activities to come.  Let’s start with an easy task:  Greeting.  We are going to greet people we encounter.  Don’t worry about the response from others; our task is to greet.

I’ve had a harD time with this myself.  I expect to hear a response when I greet someone.  For example, I would walk into a room and say, “Good Morning!”  When I don’t get a response I usually say something that will get their attention.  I would say, “Well, have a bad morning.”  For some reason people seem to hear that statement and apologize saying they didn’t hear me say good morning.  As mentioned above, we are not going to worry about responses.  The task is to greet.

For the next 30 days, I challenge you to greet everyone you make eye contact with.  Use what ever greeting you see fit.  Below is a list of simple yet effective greetings.

  • Good Morning
  • Good Afternoon
  • Good Evening
  • Hello
  • Hey, How are you?!
  • What’s up?
